Slang N Friendz is a multi-platform mobile application that is virtually a clone of Words with Friends with a twist. The twist of the app, leading to the success of the app is that the app focused on slang, profanity and colloquial terms. The use of these terms, which are added to the apps dictionary, awards the game players bonus points orders of magnitude higher than playing conventional words from the American lexicon, that one would play in Words with Friends and Scrabble.
Slang N Friendz needs were two-fold. They needed a user interface redesign and a new code base. Slang N Friendz initially was looking for some debugging, however after reviewing the code base, the app was so poorly written, that it would take more time to debug the app than developing new native apps. The initial development of the app was outsourced and the development team implemented practices that were so blatantly inappropriate or deprecated that the IDE immediately presents an error. The result of this poorly written code were reports of many crashes by players and the company. The app was completely unstable.
As a result, it was the recommendation to the client that the app be redeveloped from the ground up in clean swift and java or on a cross-platform hybrid code base platform like ionic. Upon completion of the project the recommendation would result in a clean, stable and scalable code base that would serve the company well; providing the company’s end users a seamless bug-free gaming experience playing friends around the world.
The design of the application was outdated and dark. The recommendation for the design a redesign that was true to the original design that provided Slang N Friendz user base a refreshed user experience that was still familiar. The proposed course of action was to lighten up the color palette of the design to make the app more welcoming and lighthearted.
